week 52 project - week 9 "shadows"

This weeks theme in our project is shadows. And I sound like a broken record, but since our container still hasn't arrived I could not make what I have in my mind. My idea involved my softbox with is inside that not arrived container...

So I chose this image from the past. I love what softboxes (and other light sources can do) with placing shadows. Don't get me wrong I still like natural light a lot. But appriciate studio light more and more as well.

In this image I like how the shadow falls of behind her but still creates separation of the background. And the shadow around her face, defines her beautiful face.

week 52 project - week 8 "morning drink"

As you might know by now a group of very talented photographers, all connected through the fab photographer Nicole Van, have decided to do a week 52 project. Each week we will have a certain theme as our guideline and it is our job to show our interpretation of that theme.

This week our theme is our morning drink. I love my milky coffee in the morning. For many to milky....;-), but I love it. Especially when I drink it after my morning run.

week 52 project - week 6 "love or hearts"

As you might know by now a group of very talented photographers, all connected through the fab photographer Nicole Van, have decided to do a week 52 project. Each week we will have a certain theme as our guideline and it is our job to show our interpretation of that theme.

And to hop over immediately  into this weeks theme "hearts or love". 

My second daughter left her best friend behind in Oman. There are still a lot of tears over this. Luckily I made some images of them together. The leaving behind is the hard part of this traveling life. You or the other will move on a some point. Hopefully they can stay connected during holiday time when they will see each other again. I used Florabella's valentine templates for these images.

week 52 project - week 5 "directional light"

As you might know by now a group of very talented photographers, all connected through the fab photographer Nicole Van, have decided to do a week 52 project. Each week we will have a certain theme as our guideline and it is our job to show our interpretation of that theme.

So...ok I am too late and ok it is not really the picture I had in mind, but since I am not a quitter, I made it work. 

In my mind I would make this picture: a sunburst througt one of the beautiful trees over here. But life got in the way. Every morning we needed a taxi to go from the appartment to school and then I had to wait for 7,5 hours till the children finished school In my mind I would take my camera with me, in reality I didn't want to carry, car seats, school bags etc. in minus 20 degres. 

So this morning I made this image. 

I paid attention to the shadow behind the little dolly and I like the vertical shadow line on the right...;-)

week 52 project - week 3 "Low Depth of Field: Sliver of focus"

As you might know by now a group of very talented photographers, all connected through the fab photographer Nicole Van, have decided to do a week 52 project. Each week we will have a certain theme as our guideline and it is our job to show our interpretation of that theme.

This week our theme is a small aperture nr. This is sometimes confusing for some because a small nr. like f 2.8 means your lens is wide open. And with a larger nr. like f 22 it is almost closed. A small f nr gives a beautiful bokeh and draws the eye to the subject. You blur the background. 

Here is my take of this morning. Since we have only 5 days left in Oman and leave for Moscow. This image seems to be appropriate.

Camera settings for this image above are: f 1.6, 1/1600 sec, iso 200. I used my 50 mm lens f1.4 on my Nikon D700.

I really love shooting wide open. I like how it isolates the subject.

Week 52 project - week 2 Delicate

This week our theme is Delicate. I had all kinds of ideas but living in a temporary house (with hardly anything) prior to our move to Moscow made some ideas a bit difficult to prosecute. For instance I had a very lovely piece of a lace dress in mind (shot with my Lensbaby) but since it is already in the container...

So I decided to look for what I do have and I thought about this necklace. It is made of feathers and feathers are delicate. And after making the picture I started to play with some textures. And this is my end result of this week's theme. 

I really like to get inspired with these themes. It makes you think outside the box ;-).

week 52 project - week 1 High Key

First of all I would like to wish everyone a fabulous and very photographic 2012. I hope all your wishes come through.

And although I don't do New Year resolutions ;-) I love to get involved in this new project.

A group of very talented photographers, all connected through the fab photographer Nicole Van, have decided to do a week 52 project. Each week we will do a certain theme and it is our job to show our interpretation of that theme.

Our first week’s theme is “high key”. High Key images are defined by many photographers in many different ways. But the basic element of a high key photo is that it is very bright and usually has a lot of white. 

So this morning I asked my girls to put on something white and give me 5 minutes of their time ;-). I explained to them the concept of the project and they were happy to be involved.
